Many of the images I do are combinations of photography and invented imagery. The interplay of these two things in an image creates a kind of tension that I like to explore. Stippling, again, is the technique here, as it is in the majority of the ink drawings. At 24"x18", this is one of the largest of my drawings.

Latest Painting

Leighton's Athlete, oil on canvas, 60"x48", 2006

This was just completed about two months ago. It's one of the largest and most labor-intensive projects I've taken on so far. Total working time is somewhere around 300 hrs.

The background is all invented imagery and the figure was done using photo reference material. Frederick Leighton's sculpture, Athlete Wrestling A Python, is the center of interest. From there, I created a backdrop that behaves in a surreal manner. Another goal of this piece was to take something from the nineteenth century and make it look contemporary.
